Why is our collection such a treat?
What sets our online boutique apart from the mass-market option is that every item in the catalog is handmade, and many of our pieces are one-of-a-kind. Our pet apparel is designed with an attentive selection of materials and thoughtful details assuring that customers will enjoy the unique style and cozy comfort for all seasons that their dog or cat deserves, and the reassurance of knowing that every item is made with care from a small business in Southern New England.
Chocolate Peanut participates in markets and adoption events, a welcomed opportunity to connect with the local community and to chat in person with new and returning customers.

Why Chocolate Peanut?

People often muse that there aren’t chocolate peanut bars or clusters to be found, but instead there’s products geared towards dogs, cats, and their humans, which always begs the question, “why Chocolate Peanut?” I’m always happy to tell the story of a chocolate lab named Zoey. I got her from my home state of North Carolina, and we lived in Washington DC from 1990 until 1995 and ventured across the country to San Diego, CA. In 2002, we moved back to the east coast, and she lived her last few months in rural Connecticut. She went everywhere with me, whether we were running, eating, camping, or exploring, she was always riding shotgun.
Zoey was my Chocolate Peanut and my inspiration for the site in 2000 when I first registered the domain. Initially the site promoted pet photography services, then a blog, and eventually evolved into an online boutique. In any case, I knew it would always honor her memory. She wore a knitted cap and tube scarf like no one else and was always being photographed. She inspired the site with all of its creations. This site is dedicated to her.
